“Mental illnesses have always been a huge part of my life, from struggling with my own mental illness to watching some of my closest friends struggle with their diagnoses and the mental illness itself. I think that confessing what I deal with to my family and friends was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done mostly because of the stigma and stereotypes surrounding mental illnesses. That is why I started a club, MIA, at FMHS for students who needed a positive safe space to talk about their mental illnesses or who want to understand mental illnesses better.”
